Steven Rochen, a native of Texas, studied at the Mannes College of Music with Sally Thomas where he completed a Masters Degree and Post-Graduate Diploma. His undergraduate training was at the University of Houston with Fredell Lack and conducting study was with Igor Buketoff. His chamber music coaches include Felix Galimir, John Graham, Hans Jørgen Jensen, and Paul Doktor. He has performed in master classes with Josef Gingold and Julius Levine.
Mr. Rochen has performed in solo, chamber music, and orchestral performances in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. As a composer specializing in works for children's performance, his compositions and arrangements for orchestra have been broadcast on NBC and PBS. His conducting activities include: conductor of the Third Street Sinfonia and the young children's orchestra, Con Spirito. In the summer of 2008, Mr. Rochen travelled to Europe as the Paul-Philippe Bolduc Memorial Fellow.
Mr. Rochen is a former faculty member of City University of New York, Baruch College, and has served as a clinician and chamber music coach at the Vermont Youth Orchestra Camp. Currently, Mr. Rochen is Director of Instrumental Studies at the Trinity School in New York City and on the violin faculty of The Third Street Music School Settlement. At Meadowmount, he is on the chamber music faculty and assistant to Sally Thomas.
